Addendum to Making a Murderer Season 1
Updated: Nov 23, 2022
FTC is not including Making a Murderer: Season 2 among its recommendations. The focus on Avery’s celebrity lawyer Kathleen Zellner spearheading his appeals process feels disingenuous, forced, and often gimmicky. Particularly strange is her rolodex of “experts” performing a series of bizarre forensic experiments. This is in stark contrast to the meticulous and fascinating legal work of the Dassey appeals team led by attorneys Steven Drizin and Laura Nirider from Northwestern Pritzker School of Law’s Center on Wrongful Convictions of Youth. It is a shame both cases are featured in the same season because the scenes featuring the latter are worth your time . My recommendation is to skip Making a Murderer Season 2 and instead consider the panel discussion Brendan Dassey: A True Story of a False Confession (start 17 minutes in): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7jDf5wWdDQ&t=1244s
