FTC Rating: 4 out of 5
A rookie cop, an ill-equipped police force, and a community gripped with fear come together to create a perfect storm of suspicion and hysteria in the idyllic town of Martensville, Saskatchewan. Canada did not escape the "Satanic Panic" sweeping North America in the 80s and 90s. This podcast explores the 1992 allegations of ritual abuse made by the children of Martenville and the lasting effects on this small community.
Strengths:
-Candid interview with investigating officer, Claudia Bryden
-Fascinating interview with FBI Special Agent, Ken Lanning
-Exploration into the roots of "Satanic Panic"
Weaknesses:
-The overly familiar candor of the reporter seems forced at times which can be off-putting
-The series is overly drawn-out, could have used some editing to reduce the 7 episode format to 6 with the better results.
